missed birthdays

Youth Suicide has turned into a crisis in the UK, with 6,929 young people taking their own life in the last decade. How do you get the whole country talking about it, and stop the number rising?

6,929 birthday balloons were installed inside Westfield Shopping Centre. They were bright and colourful on the surface. But each balloon represented a child who had died by suicide, and a birthday they never reached.

We worked with over 50 families who had lost children to suicide. The installation became a place of remembrance and commemoration for them, and thousands of others. People came down to see the installation from hundreds of miles away, and leave a message to the child they had lost.

These families created hours of recordings for visitors of the exhibition to listen to, and learn about the young lives that had been lost. .

The campaign launched live on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ to almost 1.5 million people watching at home.

Whilst the balloons highlight the tragic and untimely death of thousands of young people, the AV film tells the story of just one person. Evelyn.
